About the author:
I'm a teacher. I'm an entrepreneur. I'm an educational technology and materials design enthusiast. I've earned degrees, experience, and awards too. I've combined my interests to create abceng.org, a resource hub for teachers and tutors who work with adult and adolescent English learners who have emerging literacy skills. Teaching will always be my favorite pastime, but at the moment, I'm taking a short break from teaching and concentrating most of my efforts on this project. I always appreciate feedback and ideas. Thank you for visiting abceng.org.

If emergent readers are able to build literacy skills in a native language, they can transfer those skills to more efficiently learn literacy in an additional language such as English. Each packet below includes vocabulary and pattern sentences in the native language, followed by the same in English. The packet also includes practice in syllable segmentation and writing in the native language. Before working through these packets, students should first be comfortable with all of the alphabet sounds. A teacher or tutor does not need to know the native language in order to guide a student through these packets.

These packets are based on the Easy English Readers set. There are English-only versions of these packets available under the Vocabulary page. More languages are coming. If you can help,
submit a new language translation.
